I have been an Electronic Technician for over 55 years. I DO know how to solder and what to expect from a soldering iron or gun. I have owned ISO-TIP irons for over 15 years. Every color that they make I have purchased. This is the BLUE variety. When it works it is AWESOME, however it is frustrating beyond words. The batteries DO have a problem. The iron will shut off for no apparent reason then come back on in 4 or 5 minutes. Both of the BLUE irons did this. I phoned the factory and they eventually send me two replacement batteries. Same basic battery but with the incorrect end tabs. I made them work, but just 4 months after the new batteries were installed they too began to show the same problem as the original. In addition, the actuating button is very frustrating. It is basically a good idea being able to prevent the iron from accidentally turning on, however the button is TOO loose. EACH time you go to use it you must see that the button is rotated to the 11:00 to 1:00 position. Just a simple spring on the button OR silicone Dampening fluid would be methods to help the problem. I wish the designers of this and similar tools would actually USE the items before putting them into production. In addition, it is my person opinion, but $18.00 it WAY too much to pay for a tip that has remarkably short life. I believe that if the manufacturer were to devote even a short period of time to make a few changes that this iron would be a real winner.
